Arsenal also lost Bacary Sagna to injury, and the team is once again unbalanced by injuries. Earlier in the season, injuries of key players brought Arsenal to a slump and an embarassing losing streak, forcing Arsene Wenger to make emergency recruitments. Milan is struggling since they saw their Champions League exit against Barcelona, and have also lost their top position in the league around that time. Wesley Sneijder is finally healthy and is running the team, and in the meanwhile the other players learned to take a share of the responsibility, which means Inter is stronger now than they were in the first part of the season when Sneijder was a regular. Fredy Guarin and Ricardo Alvarez still didn’t find their way, which especially goes for Alvarez, and just like Milan, Inter is also a one-man team. Diego Forlan scored only three goals in Serie A this season, and Diego Milito seems to be doing all the scoring himself, with 20 goals scored.

Inter will be trying to play offensively in this match, as realistically it’s the only way they can play with these players, especially because Christian Chivu and Javier Zanetti are unavailable through injuries. Milan is a different team, they’ll try to dominate defensively and rely on Ibrahimovic to do something up front. Since he’s not in such a good form lately, it might not work as planned.

Athletic is seventh on the league table, with one point less than their Europa League final opponents Atletico Madrid, but have already qualified for Europe with a Copa del Rey final and need no more points this season.

Although Athletic performed poorly in the domestic league this season, lately they stepped up and won three of the last five matches, although against the weakest teams in the league, with minimal results. In the last round, Athletic lost 2-0 on the road against struggling Zaragoza. Despite the apparent good streak of results, in reality Athletic is still not performing well in the league and is only waiting for their two biggest matches of the season.

Real Madrid has a seven-point advantage over Barcelona with three more rounds to go, and will soon win the championship mathematically. But they won’t be waiting to do it in front of their own fans, as they’re only playing Mallorca in the last round on Santiago Bernabeu, and need to clinch the title much sooner. With three points from Bilbao, the title would be in their hands.

Lecce missed the opportunity to get ahead of Genoa when they hosted them on Stadio Luigi Ferraris two months ago. Lecce scored in 81st minute for 2-1, but Genoa equalized to 2-2 only four minutes later. Genoa is the only team Lecce can jump over until the end of the season, and since Genoa is not in good form and didn’t win for 13 rounds, Lecce does stand a chance of saving themselves with another two or three points until the end of the season. This week, they’re facing the toughest challenge.

Lecce is getting points lately. They won at home against Roma, they won at Catania, and took a point away against Lazio. In other matches they were also playing good, and in general are a hard nut to crack lately, after being an easily beatable team for the bigger part of the season. Lecce does have their share of good strikers, such as David di Michele and Luis Muriel.

Juventus is still undefeated this season, with 21 victories and 14 draws. They did have a problem with the draws but upon seeing the necessity of taking three points instead of one, they started taking more risks and opened up a bit. The result is eight victories in a row, including the ones against Roma and Lazio. Andrea Pirlo is coming back after a minor injury, and Alessandro Matri is coming back from suspension to lead the offense. For Lecce, Massimo Oddo is a bit of a doubt and defender Andrea Esposito will sit this one out as he got a red card against Parma in the last round.

Stoke City will be playing their usual hard-tackling match, and although they haven’t been as dominant this season as in the last one, they’re performing very well against the top clubs, perhaps even better than before – when they were just a dangerous side but weren’t taking that many points against the greats. Atletico Madrid won 4-2 in the first leg, with two goals by Falcao, and Valencia just barely kept the chances alive with a late goal by Ricardo Costa which reduced the deficit to two goals only. Both clubs went through reogranization on the pitch this season, and Valencia had a harder task as they’ve sold all their big players including Mata, and replaced them with cheaper players who they found to be more acceptable for their desired game style. It took Valencia a lot of time at the beginning of the season to do it right, and they finally started performing, but they still need more experience with the flexible Portuguese style, and could use a good player or two. Unlike Atletico, who has Radamel Falcao, Valencia is a team without stars.

Queens Park Rangers are relegation candidates, and the rich club looking to become something in the ranks of Manchester City is currently in the relegation zone. They are 17th but Bolton, just two points behind them, has two matches less.

His absence was noticeable in a 4-0 defeat at Barcelona against Espanyol on Sunday.
